Born in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, Vishal Singh Bhandari began his career in the adventure and river sports industry in 2002. Over more than two decades, he has developed extensive experience as a professional river rafting guide, safety kayaker, whitewater kayaker, and river expedition leader, working across India and internationally.
In 2003, Vishal travelled to Nepal to undertake South West River Training (SWRT), further developing his technical knowledge and skills in river rescue, safety, and whitewater operations.
The same year, he participated in the Asian Whitewater Kayaking Championships, where he was awarded a Silver Medal, marking a significant achievement in his early kayaking career.
Vishal also participated in numerous whitewater kayaking competitions and river expeditions across India, gaining valuable experience in different river environments and challenging whitewater conditions.
In 2008, he travelled to Arunachal Pradesh for an approximately one-month kayaking expedition. During the expedition, he explored and paddled some of the region’s challenging and remote rivers and was part of a team that completed an early descent of the Kurung River, together with experienced national and international whitewater kayakers. The expedition further strengthened his skills in remote-river exploration, expedition paddling, navigation, teamwork, river assessment, and whitewater safety.
Following his extensive experience in India, Vishal had the opportunity to work in Japan for approximately 10 years, gaining valuable international exposure in the adventure and outdoor industry. His experience in Japan further strengthened his professional discipline, safety awareness, teamwork, leadership skills, and understanding of international practices and standards in river-based adventure activities.
Today, Vishal is the Founder of Himalayan Outfitters, through which he continues to contribute to the development of river-based adventure tourism and outdoor activities.
With more than 20 years of experience in the adventure field, Vishal has built his career around river rafting, safety kayaking, whitewater kayaking, river rescue, expedition operations, and adventure tourism. His journey across India, Nepal, Arunachal Pradesh, and Japan, combined with his competitive kayaking experience and international exposure, reflects his long-standing commitment to river safety.
